The Los Angeles Dodgers announced that starter Walker Buehler will miss the rest of the season because he will undergo surgery for an elbow injury that sidelined him for the past two months.

Injuries plague Dodgers’ rotation

Buehler is scheduled to undergo surgery on August 23 and joins the list of injured players in the Angels’ rotation, headed by veteran Clayton Kershaw, due to a back problem that will keep him off the mound until at least September, without manager Dave Roberts giving an exact date for his return.

The Dodgers revealed the news about Buehler’s surgery before the start of a four-game series against the Milwaukee Brewers.

Los Angeles right-hander had 12 starts on the season with a 6-3 record and 4.02 ERA. His last appearance was on June 10, when he pitched four innings and left the game with elbow discomfort.

In the process, the first official information from Los Angeles was that he had a flexor injury that would keep him out six to eight weeks, until it was confirmed that he would not return in 2022.

Dodgers, the best team in MLB

Despite the absences, the Dodgers have the best record in the Major Leagues at 79-34 and just this Sunday the Kansas City Royals snapped a streak of 12 consecutive wins.

For the four-game series against the Brewers, Dave Roberts sent Mexican pitcher Julio Urías to the mound for the first game, and in the following games, Ryan Pepiot, Tony Gonsolin and Andrew Heaney will take the ball, while the fifth in the current rotation is Tyler Anderson, who is expected to be the starter for next Friday’s visit to the Miami Marlins.

Urias came into the game against Milwaukee with a 12-6 record and 2.49 ERA, to be along with Gonsolin (14-1) and Anderson (13-2) the Dodgers’ strong pitching cards heading into the playoffs.
