Reactions in the NBA world regarding the one-year suspension of Phoenix Suns owner Robert Sarver, in addition to a $10 million fine have not been scarce, however, there are personalities whose opinion is more heard than others, such is the case of Los Angeles Lakers star LeBron James.

James has been a consistent activist on issues of racism, misogyny and other discriminatory behavior during his long NBA career, which is why his disapproval of the decision announced by Commissioner Adam Silver is particularly interesting.

LeBron James’ reaction to the punishment of Robert Sarver

“Read through the Sarver stories a few times now,” James wrote on Twitter. “I gotta be honest. Our league definitely got this wrong. I don’t need to explain why. Y’all read the stories and decide for yourself. I said it before and I’m gonna say it again, there is no place in this league for that kind of behavior. I love this league and I deeply respect our leadership. But this isn’t right. There is no place for misogyny, sexism, and racism in any work place. Don’t matter if you own the team or play for the team. We hold our league up as an example of our values and this aint it.”

Why was the Suns owner punished?

An investigation determined the toxic work environment in the Suns organization, where the owner frequently used the “n-word” and used sexually inappropriate language toward his female employees, among other misconduct during his 18-year ownership of the franchise that finished with the best record in the NBA last regular season.

The investigation of the Suns began last year, after ESPN released testimonies from 70 former and current Suns employees detailing all of these irregularities.
