LeBron James may currently play for the Los Angeles Lakers, have won a title with this organization, has also played during his career with the Miami Heat, lifting the Larry O’Brien Trophy on multiple occasions, however, his real home will always be the Cleveland Cavaliers, being a native of the nearby city of Akron, Ohio.

A game with special meaning

That’s why the annual game against the Cavs in Cleveland has a special meaning for the famous “King,” who just happens to be on his own as the second all-time leading scorer after Saturday’s game against the Washington Wizards.

The quest for the all-time mark held by Kareem Abdul-Jabbar kicked off at Rocket Mortgage FieldHouse on Monday and, seemingly despite the tough season, James shined to a standing ovation from his home crowd, which was not limited in applause for the player who represented the Cavaliers in two stints, from 2003 to 2010 and from 2014 to 2018.

LeBron’s past in Cleveland

James, who won the Cleveland franchise’s only championship in 2016, led the Lakers to a resounding 131-120 win over the Cavaliers by his hand.

In the game, LeBron hit 17 of the 29 shots he attempted from the field for a grand total of 38 points which he added to 11 rebounds and 12 assists to leave his home state with a magnificent triple double.

How many points is LeBron short of being the all-time leading scorer?

With Tuesday’s scoring, James reached 36,985 points in his glorious career, putting him just 1,403 shy of surpassing the 38,387 of the man born Ferdinand Lewis Alcindor Jr. but known today as Kareem Abdul-Jabbar.

Today, James’ concern is to ensure the Lakers’ participation in the playoffs, as they are in that zone, occupying the ninth place in the Western Conference.
