After the press conference where Akron, Ohio authorities show the video where police kill 25-year-old Jayland Walker with 60 shots, the NBA star born in that city, LeBron James, sent a touching message on twitter.

Police argued that they thought Walker was armed. The chase started in a car, but after Jaylan gets out of the car, the officers chase him down and kill him.

Immediately after the video was released James wrote on his twitter account, “I pray for my city today!”.

Why did they chase Walker?

According to several media reports, during a routine traffic check, the police stopped Walker’s car for unknown traffic violations. Jaylan did not want to stop, he was followed first by car and then on foot.

Walker’s family attorney, Bobby DiCello, calling the video shocking, told the Akron Beacon Journal that police fired more than 90 shots and Jaylan sustained 60 wounds resulting in his death.

Authorities also reported that Walker’s car was found to have a gun and a full charger.

Authorities called for calm

Akron Mayor Dan Horrigan and Police Chief Steve Myllet asked the public to remain calm, as strong protests against police brutality towards minorities are expected after the video was presented, as happened with the murder of George Floyd.

The reaction to Walker’s death provoked the first discontent of the population and the Independence Day celebration this 4th of July was suspended.
