U.S. Vice President Kamala Harris on Wednesday thanked tennis player Serena Williams for “inspiring people” with her “talent, elegance and determination” after her brilliant second-round win at the US Open against Estonian tennis player Anett Kontaveit, ranked No. 2 in the world.

“Thank you @SerenaWilliams for inspiring people around the world with your talent, grace, and determination both on and off the court. We celebrate all that you have been, all that you are, and all that is to come,” Harris wrote on Twitter.

His message came after Serena extended her run in what will in all likelihood be the final US Open of her successful career.

Tiger Woods’ words to Serena Williams

The 40-year-old American player has won 23 Grand Slams, six of them at the New York tournament.

The Arthur Ashe court dedicated a series of heartfelt tributes to her in recent days to celebrate her career and is pushing her match after match to advance in the tournament.

Following her victory over Kontaveit, Serena has received several messages of appreciation, including one from golfer Tiger Woods: “It was a privilege to see a display of greatness. Congratulations Serena.”

In the third round, Serena will face Australia’s Ajla Tomljanovic.

LeBron James and GOAT sounds off on Serena Williams

Los Angeles Lakers star LeBron James, who has declared himself an admirer of Serena Williams, was unable to attend the Arthur Ashe Satadium to witness the tennis player’s feat, but from his home he recorded himself watching the match and made the sounds of a goat (GOAT) which stands for the greatest of all time by its acronym in English.

The accolades for Serena Williams’ victory do not end, the road at the US Open continues and the future could mean even more accolades for the legendary American tennis player.
