The opening race of the 2022 Formula 1 season went the way of Ferrari‘s Charles Leclerc, who had teammate Carlos Sainz finish just behind him in second place.

Mercedes star Lewis Hamilton rounded out the podium as he managed to finish third, while new Mercedes signing George Russell came fourth.

It was expected to be a good day for Red Bull before the race as last year’s champion, Max Verstappen, achieved a second-place finish in qualifying while teammate Sergio Perez recorded the fourth-fastest time, but both failed to finish Sunday’s race.

Hamilton’s reaction to Bahrain GP

“So happy to see them doing well again,” Hamilton said of Ferrari‘s one-two after the race.

“They’re such a historic epic team, so it’s great to see Charles and Carlos up there.

“This is really the best result we could have got. Of course it was unfortunate for the other two drivers, but we did the best we could and we’re grateful for these points.”

The next race on the F1 calendar comes in a week’s time, as the Saudi Arabian Grand Prix takes place at the Jeddah Corniche Circuit.
