Bayern Munich are still adamant that Robert Lewandowski will honour his contract with the German club and remain the team’s striker until June 30, 2023, but the striker feels differently and wants to join Barcelona.

Bayern sporting director Hasan Salihamidzic has shown that he is still determined to keep the Lewandowski at the club this summer, as he went to meet the Polish forward face to face.

According to a report from Sky Germany, Salihamidzic travelled to the striker’s holiday home in Mallorca to persuade him to change his mind.

However, it was a meeting that did not have the desired effect, as the ex-Dortmund player is still keen to leave and join Barcelona.

Lewandowski has already stated on more than one occasion that he is ready to put an end to his time at Bayern and, according to Bild, he has again urged the German club to facilitate an exit.

Bayern Munich’s faith in Lewandowski

Bayern are not willing to part with their striker, who they still trust to lead their front line.

Lewandowski has been the centrepiece of the Bavarian side ever since he joined from Dortmund in 2014.

He has scored a staggering 238 goals in 253 appearances and has cemented himself as an all-time Bayern legend.

At 33 years old, he appears to have decided definitively that he would like a fresh challenge and, with one year left on his current deal, he would like to leave.

Barcelona want to sign Lewandowski

Barcelona are the most heavily linked team, but Premier League side Chelsea are also in the picture as they are about to lose Romelu Lukaku.

For Barcelona, it’ll be a matter of finances, in a summer where they’re already bringing in Andreas Christensen and Franck Kessie.
