One of the favorites to be the Most Valuable Player of the current 2022-2023 NBA season is undoubtedly the Slovenian point guard for the Dallas Mavericks, Luka Doncic, however, long before that is or is not a real possibility he has already put his name back next to that of the greatest legend in basketball history, Michael Jordan.

Doncic scored 44 points in the Mavs’ important 114-105 win over the Orlando Magic and in doing so has become the first player to score at least 30 points for his team in the first six games of a regular season since “Air Jordan” did it with the Chicago Bulls in the 1986-1987 season, this according to @ESPNStatsInfo research.

Luka Doncic = Michael Jordan 2.0?

The stellar European player is already a “veteran” at 23 years of age, as he is entering his fourth NBA season after his stellar stint with Real Madrid from 2015 to 2018 and despite not going through the NCAA there are a certain amount of similarities to Jordan that put his greatness in perspective at the start of his career.

When Jordan achieved the aforementioned milestone of six straight games to open a season of at least 30 points 36 years ago, the famed #23 was in his third NBA season and was the same age as Doncic (23 years old).

Paolo Banchero, on his way to being Rookie of the Year

In the aforementioned game against the Magic, the one who stood out for Orlando was the first pick of the last Draft, Paolo Banchero, who despite that had his worst game of the campaign in terms of scoring by contributing only 18 points.

The Mavericks (3-3) will return to the court on Wednesday, November 2 when they host the Utah Jazz, while the Magic (1-6) will have their next game a day earlier when they visit the Oklahoma City Thunder.
