UFC fighter Conor McGregor is not going to be making a return to the sport in 2022 as he is focusing on a Hollywood debut instead.
He will not be fighting until 2023 as he continues to recover from his injury and gets ready to star in a Road House remake.
His manager confirmed that the 34-year-old will not be in the Octagon this year but stressed that the foray into Hollywood would not affect his return to sport.
McGregor is set to feature alongside Jake Gyllenhall in the remake of 1989 classic Road House with filming to begin in the Caribbean in the approaching weeks.
The Irishman’s manager Tim Simpson told MMA Junkie: “A fun little venture then switching back to climbing the mountain again. It fits in perfectly. He’s still on track for a big return next year.”
McGregor has not fought since last summer when he lost to Dustin Poirier for the second time after sustaining a broken leg.
Simpson said: “Acting wasn’t something I think Conor had at the very front of his mind, right now he’s still a world-class athlete and his focus is being the best fighter in the world.
“But as the injury continues to heal and he continues to prepare for a comeback, the timing worked well.
“It’s a great opportunity to do a big Hollywood blockbuster in meantime and he’s going to kill it.
“The leg is still healing, I think there’s a little bit more to go on that but he’s been training like a madman. Twice a day, every day.
“He’s been training super hard, he’s in amazing shape it’s just the final adjustments to get that leg where it’s supposed to be.”
