Lionel Messi has cast doubt over his career with the Argentina national team after the World Cup in Qatar.

The Paris Saint-Germain forward will be 35 years old when the tournament comes around, and he admits that he’s going to have to consider his options.

“I’m thinking about what’s coming now, in Ecuador,” said Messi after scoring in Argentina‘s 3-0 win over Venezuela.

“After the World Cup I’m going to have to rethink a lot of things, depending on whether it goes well or badly.

“Let’s hope it goes well for us.”

Throughout his career, Messi has always had more success at club level than with his country, but he’s enjoying his time with Argentina these days.

“I’ve been happy here for a long time, since before we won the cup [Copa America],” he noted.

“People are showing me that they love me and I’m grateful.

“Everything flows naturally, it’s easier on and off the pitch.”
