Argentina beat Honduras 3-0 on Friday and Lionel Messi scored a brace to help his country to an emphatic win, with the forward in much better form than he was last year, following his high-profle move from Barcelona to Paris Saint Germain.

Following the game against Honduras, Messi spoke to members of the media and admitted that he was once again enjoying his football after a difficult year.

“I feel good, I feel different to last year,” Messi said following the game in Miami.

“I knew it was going to be like that and I’ve said before that I had a tough time. I never really found myself.

“This year is different. I arrived with a different mindset, feeling more comfortable with the club, the dressing room, my teammates and the game.

“The truth is that I feel very good. I’m back to enjoying it.”

Messi also admitted that, much like the Argentine public, he is anxious and excited about the upcoming World Cup.

“We are just as anxious as the people, but we have to be calm,” Messi continued.

“We have a great team for the World Cup. It’s special, we have to take it step by step.

“We are enjoying every moment we are together, preparing seriously when it’s our turn to work.”

Scaloni is proud of Messi

Argentine coach Lionel Scaloni also spoke and said that his star player seems to be in much better spirits heading into the World Cup than he was in previous months.

“The important thing is that he is well, that he is comfortable, that he enjoys playing football,” Scaloni said.

“If he doesn’t enjoy it… we’re not doing well. I think he’s enjoying his team. That’s important.

“Everybody enjoys seeing him on the pitch. The more he enjoys it, the more we all enjoy it. I think he’s doing well, I see him happy. I hope he continues like that.”
