While Paris Saint-Germain failed, once again, to meet their objective of winning the Champions League this season, their revenues saw a sharp increase.

The arrival of Leo Messi from Barcelona last summer had many expecting the Parisians to finally land Europe’s biggest prize. That did not materialise, although the commercial benefits of his signing have contributed to the increase in revenues.

According to L’Equipe, the Ligue 1 champions have made 700 million euros in revenue, a record since Qatar Sports Investments took ownership of the club in 2011.

Part of this is down to sponsorship, which saw an increase of 13 percent thanks to the contracts reached with GOAT (50 million euros for the season), Crypto and Gorillas, which will bring in an additional 10m euros. PSG will earn more than 300 million from advertising, which is a new record for the club.

Messi has had a major impact on the club’s accounts, with PSG selling more than one million shirts, 60 percent of which bore the number and name of the Argentinian star.

Only Manchester United now sell more jerseys around the world than PSG.

Ticket revenues at the Parc des Princes have also had a big influence on this record budget.

But it’s not all good news for PSG’s coffers. The premature elimination from the Champions League at the hands of Real Madrid has reduced the club’s television revenue. Last season they earned 200 million euros for playing in the semi-finals, but this year that figure has been reduced to less than half of that.
