Inter Miami‘s race to sign Leo Messi is nearing the finish line. A few weeks ago it was reported by the The Athletic that the US club were optimistic, now The Times have given more details about the possible contract that the Argentine will sign with the franchise managed by David Beckham.

There are several keys to the matter. As they explain, Messi is already a regular visitor of Miami. He has a house there and has been there on other occasions on holiday with his family. And he has made no secret of his desire to try his luck in the United States and MLS.

“I always had the desire of being able to enjoy and have the experience of living in the United States, to experience what that league is, what life is like there. I would like to, but whether it happens or not, I don’t know,” Messi told La Sexta in 2020.

The Times claims that David Beckham’s influence on this potential signing should not be underestimated. The Englishman has been key and “as Qatar’s ambassador for the 2022 World Cup, he has a direct line to PSG’s owners. In addition, he also has a direct relationship with Messi through his deal with Adidas”.

Messi’s contract with PSG expires at the end of the current season, on June 30, and although the French club (as reported by MARCA) want Messi to stay in Paris, it is not entirely clear that the Argentine star’s desire is to continue in Ligue 1.

A tailor-made team for Messi… in Miami

In addition, The Times revealed Inter Miami’s ambitious plan to welcome Leo Messi to Florida. On the one hand, it will be the highest salary ever paid to anyone in MLS. On the other, they plan to bring in some more players who fit his style and know him.

The British outlet claims that his good friends Luis Suarez and Cesc Fabregas could join him: the former is a free agent after finishing his contract with Nacional and the latter signed in the summer for Como in Serie B in Italy.
