Major League Baseball (MLB) announced Friday the 80-game suspension of Carlos Martinez over a positive Performance Enhancing Drugs (PED) test, according to Jon Heyman of the New York Post.

Martinez is a two-time All-Star who was recently let go by the Boston Red Sox. The right-handed pitcher’s All-Star appearances came during his time with the St. Louis Cardinals, which is the only team he has ever pitched for in the majors.

Carlos Martinez, his own worst enemy

Martinez signed a minor-league deal with the San Francisco Giants in March 2022 but was released a month later without ever appearing in any games. He was then picked up by the Red Sox on another minor-league contract but was let go after two poor outings for the Worcester Red Sox.

After the MLB announced his suspension, fans and pundits were quick to point out that Martinez can’t seem to get out of his own way. Martinez, 30, is a free agent and could very well be out of the league now that his reputation is worse than ever before.
