Ro Malabanan, who is a black belt in Brazilian jiu-jitsu and a yellow belt in judo, was forced to use his skills for the greater good when he held a homeless man who was supposedly assaulting people on the streets of New York.

The incident took place in the Soho district in Manhattan after Samuel Frazier allegedly sucker punched a construction worker.

Malabanan, who was on his way to work first checked in with the victim before running after the suspect and taking him down.

The incident sparked others to come forward stating that Frazier, who has no home address, had assaulted them too.

“My jiu-jitsu instincts just kicked in. I jumped on his back,” Malabanan said of the incident.

“He tried to swing me off then – but for those of you in the know – a seatbelt position dragged him down to the floor, and I immediately took his back and pinned him to the ground.

“Out of nowhere people were like ‘yeah this guy punched me in the face,’ ‘yeah this guy hit me,’ ‘this guy hit an old guy’.”

Frazier was booked on two counts of assault and claimed he was the victim after being taken down by Malabanan.

While Malabanan didn’t provide a police report as the incident made him late for work, the fighting instructor did ask New Yorkers to stay vigilant.

“Just another day,” Malabanan said.

“A lot of crazies out there in the streets right now so just please be careful. They will sucker punch you. They will take out their frustrations.”
