Monaco is unforgiving and doesn’t afford second chances, even to Formula 1‘s finest. A mistake is costly.

That’s what happened to Sergio Perez, Carlos Sainz and Fernando Alonso in the last attempt of Q3 on Saturday. The Mexican went into the wall, and Carlos Sainz couldn’t avoid getting caught up in the collision.

Sainz crashed behind. Meanwhile, a few metres before the red flag, Fernando Alonso hit the wall as well.

While it seemed that little was going to change in the fight for pole, Sainz was looking pushing while the Red Bull drivers (and especially a great Sergio Perez) wanted to launch an assault on Ferrari. No such thing happened.

Max Verstappen, in the end, was also disadvantaged. He will start fourth on Sunday. Between him and Leclerc will be Checo Perez and Sainz.

Fernando Alonso, on the other hand, was defending a fifth position that he had lost to Lando Norris and George Russell, leaving the Spaniard having to accept starting Sunday in seventh place.
