Nate Diaz finished his Ultimate Fighting Championship contract Saturday night with a victory over Tony Ferguson in the main event of UFC 279 at T-Mobile Arena.

During his postfight interview, Diaz told Joe Rogan that he is going to show other UFC fighters how to take over another sport — something Conor McGregor was unable to do, he said.

Diaz, 37, has never won a championship belt in over a decade of fighting in the UFC, but he said that he will return for the title after taking over boxing.

It’s clear that Diaz’s glory days are far behind him and was fortunate that Khamzat Chimaev missed the weight because the result of his final fight would have been entirely different.

In boxing, however, Diaz might be able to make a name for himself and get stacks of cash along the way, but it won’t be easy.

Nate Diaz vs. Jake Paul?

A single fight against Jake Paul, who has made $40 million over his last three fights, would likely pay Diaz more than he made throughout his entire UFC career.

UFC fighters being underpaid is an issue that Paul has been vocal about and once even spoke with Francis Ngannou about his ideas to fix that issue.

Ngannou congratulated Diaz on Twitter after beating Ferguson, calling him a “free” man because his contract with the UFC is done and now he’ll make some real money.

For that to happen, though, Diaz will have to get in better shape and take training seriously because he will be boxing younger, faster, and stronger guys.
