Members of the 2018 Canadian world junior hockey team, including two players associated with the New Jersey Devils, are reportedly facing charges of sexual assault.
Meanwhile, the accused players have not been named, but several players from that team, including Michael McLeod and Cal Foote from the New Jersey Devils, Carter Hart from the Philadelphia Flyers, Dillon Dube from the Calgary Flames, and Alex Formenton, now with Swiss club Ambri Piotta, have taken indefinite leaves from their professional teams.

The charges are related to an alleged group sexual assault following a Hockey Canada fundraising gala in June 2018, where the accused players were honored for winning the World Junior Championships.
London police, who had previously investigated the incident over a year ago without filing charges, are set to hold a press conference on February 5 to provide further details.
Reopening the investigation
It should be noted that there is no statute of limitations on sexual assault in Canada. The case resurfaced when a woman identified as E.M. filed a lawsuit in April 2022 against Hockey Canada, the Canadian Hockey League, and eight unnamed players, seeking $3.55 million in damages.
She claimed to have engaged in consensual acts with some players but alleged that seven others entered the room and subjected her to sexual assault, leading to emotional distress.
The lawsuit was quietly settled by Hockey Canada about a month later, reigniting national attention on the case, prompting London police to reopen their investigation.
