A year after being deported for refusing to vaccinate against COVID-19, Novak Djokovic was granted entry to Australia this Wednesday, according to Tennis Australia.

The Serbian player will seek to win theAustralian Open for a record 10th time in the upcoming season and for that, he’ll first enter the Adelaide International in the country, which starts this Sunday.

Craig Tiley, tournament director for the Australian Open said that Novak Djokovic is welcome in Australia and will undoubtedly be the player to beat once again at the first Grand Slam of the 2023 season.

Novak Djokovic faced a three year ban from Australia

Since last year Novak Djokovic was deported due to Australia’s strict rules for unvaccinated travelers, he also faced a potential three-year ban from the country, but last month, Immigration Minister Andrew Giles said that they would’ve been granting a visa for the player to compete in their territory.

Novak Djokovic likes to play in Australia

Novak Djokovic said last week in Dubai that he’s been really fortunate to start the year very strong in Australia on several ocassions.

“After obviously what happened earlier this year, hopefully I can have a decent reception there and hopefully that can help me play some good tennis.”
