Everybody is eager to know if Japanese phenom Shohei Ohtanican keep breaking records after last season’s incredible performance both on the mount and batting. On Thursday’s opening day with Los Angeles Angels, Ohtani broke another unique record while playing against the Houston Astros. Surpassing Babe Ruth one more time as one of the few record-breaking pitcher/batters in MLB history, Ohtani became the first player in both the American League and National League history to throw his team’s first pitch of the season and face his team’s first pitch of the season as a hitter. No other player has done that before him, it will stay on the books for a long time. The two-way phenom also made the very first career Opening Day start as a pitcher while he struck Jose Altuve out. Angels finished that first inning with the Astros unable to score.

By the time he was up to bat, Shohei wasn’t able to get a home run against pitcher Framber Valdez and had no luck on his first chance. Los Angeles Angels fans are getting a treat this season as Shohei Ohtani and Mike Trout are getting announced periodically one after the other in every game. It’s unfortunate the Angels are not considered favorites to win the World Series for the upcoming season but a team with two of the biggest stars in the MLB should never be underestimated. As far as Shohei Ohtani is concerned, we will see if he can continue playing at the same level he finished last season. If this happens, we will also confirm he is not just a one-hit wonder and we must all get ready to enjoy the show.

Shohei makes the cover of TIME.

Even though he didn’t finish the season as the home run king, Ohtani still hit an impressive 46 hommers. He also struck out 156 hitters throughout the entire season. Just before opening day, Ohtani made the cover of TIME magazine because they know he is a once-in-a-generation player. The last time a pro baseball player made the cover of TIME was 17 years ago when the Red Sox broke the legendary ‘Curse of the Bambino’. We are all expecting him to surpass what he did last year and only keep improving on it. Judging on the fast balls he’s throwing, people should be more than ready to ‘Enjoy the Sho’.
