When Michael Jordan made his debut for the Chicago Bulls, he often played at an almost empty stadium with fans wary of the Bulls even if they had faith in their new rookie.

A similar theme seems to be emerging with Paolo Banchero, where despite the Orlando Magic‘s patchy form, the rookie has put up some stellar numbers.

During the Magic‘s defeat to the Cleveland Cavaliers, Banchero put up 29 points, eight rebounds, four assists and two blocks. The 19-year-old has been defined by his athletic prowess combing both his strength, height, and explosiveness.

Banchero betters Jordan

In his first five games in the league, Banchero has scored 27, 20, 23, 21 and 29 points, averaging 24 points a game. This represents a better return than Jordan himself at this point in his career, with the living legend averaging 23.2.

Unsurprisingly, Banchero leads his cohort of rookies in terms of pure stats, ahead of the likes of Bennedict Mathurin, of the Indiana Pacers, and Jabari Smith, of the Houston Rockets.

Despite the Magic tanking this year, in order to provide Banchero with a better supporting cast, the star in the making is making his presence known to the rest of the league.
