Even though Zion Williamson will not be playing this year, the New Orleans Pelicans are focusing on the silver lining that their star player is in good spirits as he continues to rehab from foot surgery.

Williamson, 21, hasn’t played a single game since fracturing his foot during the off-season. Pelicans withheld his injury from the media until September 2021, reportedly because he was expected to heal before the start of the season.

Instead, Williamson underwent surgery and was close to needing a second operation on his foot. News of a second surgery surfaced as Williamson was away from the team, focusing on his rehab in Portland, Oregon.

Williamson is now back with the Pels and is all smiles, even sitting courtside for some of New Orlean’s most recent games. According to Shams Charania of The Athletic, who broke the news that Zion won’t be coming back this season, Williamson “has been doing stationary shooting and can now put weight on his foot.”

Pelicans (30-42) are coming off a three-point road loss to the Charlotte Hornets and have 10 regular season games left to play. They are currently in position to reach the play-in tournament as the No. 10 seed, one game below the Los Angeles Lakers and two above the San Antonio Spurs.
