Red Bull‘s Sergio Perez recorded the third victory of his Formula 1 career on Sunday, as he won the Monaco Grand Prix.

There was an hour delay to the race getting started as a result of a major downfall, which caused some problems for the drivers early in the contest.

Perez ended up being joined on the podium by Ferrari‘s Carlos Sainz and Red Bull teammate Max Verstappen, who finished in second and third respectively.

“It is a dream come true. As a driver, you dream of winning here,” Perez said afterwards.

“After your home race, there is no other more special weekend to win so to do it and the way we did it.

“We made it a bit harder for ourselves at the end today and we had to not make any mistakes and keep it home and keeping Carlos behind wasn’t easy.

“It is a massive day for myself and for my country. I am just very, very happy.”

The drivers had some issues when it came to going to the pits, particularly in the early part of the race, while the 27th lap saw HaasMick Schumacher spin out and crash. He was okay, but his car was ruined.

After the resumption of the race, the top eight remained the same right until the end of the race: Perez, Sainz, Verstappen, Charles Leclerc, George Russell, Lando Norris, Fernando Alonso, Lewis Hamilton.

Verstappen remains first in the drivers’ championship, as he has a nine-point lead over Leclerc in second.
