Piers Morgan, a columnist for The Sun newspaper, and with almost eight million followers on Twitter, has hit out at what he thinks to be a campaign by Manchester United to discredit Cristiano Ronaldo as he seeks an exit from the club.

Writing for his column on SunSport, Morgan has claimed Ronaldo will never play for the side again with Portuguese striker having no allies left at the club.

Piers Morgan’s latest opinion

Cristiano has no allies left at the club and can never play in a United shirt again,” the article in The Sun reads.

The article is also quoted as saying “Manchester United could allow CR7 to leave in January” despite allegedly not having a bid for the 37-year-old Portuguese striker.

According to Morgan, the alleged disinterest in signing Cristiano during the transfer window is due to “Manchester United management leaking lies to damage Cristiano Ronaldo“.

Piers Morgan defends Cristiano Ronaldo

Morgan defended Ronaldo‘s commitment to Manchester United by recalling that last summer Ronaldo turned down a 130 million euro bid from a Saudi Arabian club.

The columnist also took aim Erik ten Hag, whom he accuses of “deliberately humiliating” Ronaldo.

Ten Hag trying to lecture Cristiano on standards and values when he is deliberately humiliating him? What a joke! One is the greatest footballer of all time and champion in four countries… the other was a crap player and, as a coach, has barely won a fight outside the Netherlands,” Morgan stated.

“I think the collective disrespect for Cristiano from his manager and many Manchester United fans after all he has done for his club is disgraceful.”
