The NFL world is devastated after news has been confirmed of the death of Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Dwayne Haskins, who lost his life Saturday morning.

Haskins, 24, was training in South Florida along with other Steelers players and staff, where he was killed when he was struck by a vehicle, his agent, Cedric Saunders, confirmed to ESPN’s Adam Schefter.

Ohio State standout with Washington background

Haskins was Ohio State’s star quarterback from 2016 to 2018, finished third in Heisman Trophy voting in 2018 and in the 2019 NFL Draft was selected by the Washington Redskins (now Washington Commanders) 15th overall.

After two rough seasons with Washington, although due to injuries to other quarterbacks he started seven games as a rookie, Haskins was released by the team and signed with the Steelers last season.

For this 2022, Pittsburgh had decided to give Haskins a chance to compete for the starting job following the retirement of legendary quarterback Ben Roethlisberger.

Steelers react to Haskins’ death

“I am devastated and at a loss for words with the unfortunate passing of Dwayne Haskins. He quickly became part of our Steelers family upon his arrival in Pittsburgh and was one of our hardest workers, both on the field and in our community, Steelers coach Mike Tomlin said in a statement.

“Dwayne was a great teammate, but even more so a tremendous friend to so many. I am truly heartbroken. Our thoughts and prayers are with his wife, Kalabrya, and his entire family during this difficult time,” he added.
