The controversial situation involving Kyrie Irving seems to be coming to an end, at least momentarily. After the player’s return to the court, on Sunday (20), the NBPA, the league’s players association, decided not to press charges against the NBA for the suspension of the Brooklyn Nets player. The association’s executive director, Tamika Tremaglio, confirmed this to The Athletic’s Mike Vorkunov.

Irving was suspended for five games because of antisemitic statements he reproduced after watching a movie. Despite Irving’s attempts to retract the suspension after the case became public, Nets owner Joe Tsai opted to punish him and imposed a list of demands before the No. 11 could return to play, which included donations to anti-hate organizations and meeting with Jewish leaders, among other demands.

After the suspension was announced, Irving made an apology post on his Instagram profile. Some important NBA players came out in defense of the controversial playmaker, such as LeBron James, and the vice president of the players’ association, Jaylen Brown. The Boston Celtics player told the Boston Globe that he did not agree with the terms of the list imposed by Brooklyn, an act that reinforced the NBPA’s position to take direct action against the league.

However, the end of the suspension seems to ease the relationship between the two parties. According to Sopan Deb, a reporter for the New York Times, NBA commissioner Adam Silver had a recent meeting with Kyrie, where he said he had no doubts that Irving is not anti-Semitic.

Irving returned to action in the game against the Memphis Grizzlies, playing 26 minutes and scoring 14 points in the Nets’ victory.
