Rafael Nadal cruised to his 14th Roland Garros title on Sunday with a resounding victory over Casper Ruud, 6-3, 6-3, 6-0.

In what is more than likely the final appearance at the French Open for ‘king of clay’ Nadal signed off in perfect fashion with a flawless display.

After eight minutes came the first two break points for the champion. His opponent saved one, but lost the second thanks to a powerful forehand from the Spaniard.

Two double faults from Nadal got Ruud seemingly back into the set but that was as good as it got for the youngster, as the veteran ran rampant from then on.

He took the first set 6-3, and did the same in the second set which followed the same pattern.

But while Ruud put up some kind of fight in the first two sets, Nadal was in no mood to hand him a lifeline in the third.

The Mallorcan pulled off a flawless decisive set, winning 6-0 to the delight of the home faithful to land himself yet another French Open title.

At 36 years and 2 days old, he becomes the oldest champion at the prestigious Phlippe Chatrier, surpassing the record of his compatriot Andres Gimeno who, at 34 years and 10 months old, beat Patrick Proisy.
