The Las Vegas Raiders announced on Saturday, through their official website, that they have renewed the contract with tight end Darren Waller for three more seasons. With this, the athlete now has five years of contract with the team, since the TE still had two seasons left.

“Darren Waller is an exemplary teammate in every way, and we are excited to see him continue to grow as a leader on this team,” said Raiders head coach Josh McDaniels. “Darren brings a tremendous commitment and work ethic to the facility every day, and we couldn’t be more vibrant that he will be a part of the Raiders family for years to come.”

The three-year deal was agreed at $51 million, as reported by the player’s new agent, Drew Rosenhaus, to Adam Schefter of American ESPN. Thus, Waller’s contract totals $66.25 million, with the next two seasons being $7 million each.

“This was one of the most challenging negotiations I’ve encountered,” Rosenhaus told the reporter. In August, Waller cut ties with Klutch Sports after nearly a year with the agency and signed Rosenhaus and Robert Bailey.

Raiders and Waller had months in negotiation

During the offseason, rumors indicated that the Las Vegas team was looking to trade Waller, who will turn 30 in the next few days. However, the athlete himself denied the information.

The Raiders’ tight end had two straight seasons with at least 1,000 yards receiving, in 2019 and 2020. Last year, however, the athlete missed six games during the season and had only 55 receptions, 665 yards and two touchdowns.

With Darren Waller’s new contract, the Las Vegas Raiders offense relies for the season on quarterback Derek Carr and wide receivers Davante Adams and Hunter Renfrow, in addition to the tight end.
