The New York Rangers fan who punched a Tampa Bay Lightning fan after Game 5 will no longer be allowed to enter Madison Square Garden, authorities said.
James Anastasio, 29, was arrested after assaulting a person at MSG, the perpetrator is charged with misconduct and harassment.
Anastasio, who was wearing a Rangers jersey, got into a verbal confrontation with the Tampa Bay fan, a video shows Anastasio punching the Tampa fan and knocking him to the ground.
MSG managers sent a press release explaining the seriousness of the matter
“We are cooperating fully with law enforcement as this is now a criminal matter. The assailant will also be banned from The Garden and all other MSG venues for life,” MSG said in its statement. “All guests — no matter what team they support — should feel safe and respected in The Garden. This has and always will be our policy.”
Madison Square Garden said the two victims “received appropriate medical care.” According to police, the Lightning fan was taken to the hospital and is in stable condition and the intervening fan declined treatment.
How the series is going
With last Thursday’s victory, Tampa Bay leads the series 3-2, if they win next Saturday they will advance for the third consecutive time to the Stanley Cup Final.
