Real Madrid made it look relatively easy against Shakhtar on Tuesday night, with Rodrygo adding another standout performance to his breakout campaign.
The Brazilian opened the scoring in Los Blancos’ 2-1 victory, but it was his link up with Karim Benzema that really turned heads.
Their connection was key to the result, with Carlo Ancelotti no doubt pleased to see the youngster continue his development on the biggest stage.
Unlucky not to pick up a clean sheet as he could do nothing on Zubkov’s goal.
Shakhtar’s goal came from his flank, and was caught out by Mudryk on a play that could have made it 2-2. Did little in attack.
Was more midfielder than defender. Fired in some dangerous set-pieces and provided Benzema with a great ball that should have been finished. Lost sight of Zubkov on Shakhtar’s lone goal.
Used his pace to stamp out Shakhtar’s attempts to hit on the counter. The away side never found a way past him.
Made some uncharacteristic errors in defence in the first half, but did well to deny Mudryk of a possible one-on-one situation.
Dominated the middle of the park as usual. Pushed the team forward, and always made the right pass with accuracy.
Pressed the opposition and distributed with precision. Couldn’t have done any more.
Was everywhere on the field and got his feet in on everything it seemed. Always a danger in attack and one of Madrid’s best players on the night.
Showed what he’s capable of by dribbling past two Shakhtar players that eared an ovation from the home fans. Finished off a superb passing play by Madrid, but should have added to his tally on a few occasions.
Unlucky not to get his name on the scoresheet, but linked up with his teammates when needed.
Opened the scoring and was a thorn in the Shakhtar defence all night. Has formed a real connection with Benzema and was a real danger whenever he touched the ball. Continues to grow and is quickly becoming a key figure.
Came on for Tchouameni in the 75th minute but had little to do.
Came on for Rodrygo in the 79th minute with the match offering little in terms of chances
His side continue to leave nothing to the opposition in the Champions League. His only knock is that Real didn’t put the match away sooner, but that mostly falls on the players.
