Russell Westbrook will exercise his $47.1 million player option with the Los Angeles Lakers for the 2022/23 season.

The decision comes as no surprise as the 33-year-old wouldn’t have commanded anywhere near the figure had he chose to become a free agent.

As per ESPN, Westbrook‘s agent will file the paperwork on Tuesday ahead of the Wednesday deadline on his option, which is the final year of his five-year, $206 million contract signed with the Oklahoma City Thunder.

Since then, Westbrook has played for the Houston Rockets, Washington Wizards and the Lakers.

Last season, he averaged 18.5 points per game, 7.4 rebounds and 7.1 assists in 78 games.

Westbrook‘s scoring average was his lowest since the 2009/10 season, while his three-point percentage was a lowly 29.8 percent.

As a result, he ranked 251st out of 278 players who made at least 100 shots from long range.
