At least two people have died after two missiles fell in Przewodow, a Polish village near the border with Ukraine. According to local radio station Radio ZET, the projectiles that hit the area were stray rockets.
It’s believed the projectiles struck an area where grain was drying, and Police officers, the Public Prosecutor’s Office and the Polish Army are already on the scene.
Polish government spokesperson Piotr Muller says that Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki and top officials were holding an emergency meeting due to a “crisis situation.”
Earlier, Marcin Lebiedowcz, spokesperson for the Hrubieszow Fire Brigade (35 kilometers north of Przewodow) confirmed the explosions but stated the cause was still unknown.
“We have received news of an explosion where grain was drying. As soon as we arrived, we confirmed that something happened. Two people died at the scene. At the moment we are securing the scene,” he told Radio Lublin.
The two missiles are of Russian origin, according to the USA
According to The Guardian, a senior US intelligence official says the missiles that landed in Poland are of Russian origin.
It should be noted that Poland is part of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization, meaning if this were a deliberate attack, it would be the first Russian attack against NATO territory.
