Ryan Garcia is making a strong comeback in the boxing world. His victory against Emmanuel Tagoe gave him confidence and he is already planning a fight against Gervonta Davis.
The Mexican-American wants to close the year with a fight against the Baltimore-born fighter. And he’s ready for anything, even if his promoter doesn’t agree with it.
De la Hoya disagrees with Garcia
Golden Boy Promotions, owned by Oscar de la Hoya, doesn’t quite agree with Garcia’s decision. But the boxer himself claims that nothing will impede his decision.
“I will go to war to fight Tank. I’m ready to do whatever I have to do, because at the end of the day that fight will earn me my respect, and I think I deserve it, explained Garcia on this issue.
He was also prepared for the challenge of fighting a prestigious fighter like Davis: “I want to show everyone what I can do. Everybody wants to see it, and I’m ready now”.
Why is Golden Boy Promotions hesitating about the fight?
Ryan Garcia fights exclusively with DAZN, as he is under contract with Golden Boy Promotions. Davis, on the other hand, is with Showtime. However, Gervonta has already declared that he will leave Mayweather Promotions.
This has sparked interest from the very promoter that carries Garcia to sign him. Also Matchroom Boxing. In case of signing for Golden Boy Promotions, the arrangements would be easier.
In any case, Showtime and DAZN would have to come to an agreement for the event to take place. Depending on the pay-per-view that is established, both television companies would give in for one of the best fights of this year.
Prior to that, Garcia will face Javier Fortuna on July 16. Gervonta Davis, current WBA Lightweight (regular) champion has already done the same against Rolly Romero.
