The San Antonio Spurs announced the release of guard Joshua Primo on Friday without offering further explanation.

Ramona Shelburne and Adrian Wojnarowski reported Saturday that the franchise released Primo over “multiple alleged instances of him exposing himself to women.”

Primo, 19, was the 12th overall pick in the 2021 NBA draft and might not play in the league ever again.

Prior to the ESPN bombshell, Primo had stated that he was “seeking help to deal with a past trauma” he suffered.

If Primo wants an NBA team to claim him off waivers, he’ll need to explain the report and offer an apology if necessary.

Will the NBA ban Joshua Primo?

The ESPN report did not mention any legal action taken against Primo, but a shadow ban by the NBA is still possible.

Primo claimed to currently be taking the time to work on his mental health, though it now seems he had no choice.

His situation, though still not entirely clear, is a lot like what NFL quarterback Deshaun Watson was accused of this offseason.

Watson, who settled nearly every one of the 28 cases, was not criminally charged and the NFL only suspended him for 11 games.

Primo doesn’t have the same caché as Watson when it comes to athletic value, so the NBA might not be as forgiving as the NFL.
