A simple glance at the NBA standings says it all. The most surprised will say, “Where are the favorites?”. Because at the top of the two conferences there are teams that were not expected.

Both the Portland Trail Blazers and the Washington Wizards have earned the right to dream, even f there is a long way to go.

The ‘road’ Wizards

The latest to achieve the honor were the Wizards. Their resounding 120-99 win over the Detroit Pistons put them on par with the all-powerful Celtics and gave them a major confidence boost.

It was a game that points to what their long-term strengths may be. The Pistons held their own in the first half, but then turnovers and reduced shooting led to the victory of a team without Bradley Beal at his best.

The ‘3’ is their superlative star, but they knew how to rely on a brilliant Kristaps Porzingis and Kyle Kuzma (25+6) who is having his best season on the court.

He scored 16 points and drew praise from his teammates: “He plays like he’s on the street,” Beal said of him.

The underdog Blazers

In the West, the Blazers are full-fledged ‘underdogs.’ They beat the Lakers at Staples and the Nuggets with a superiority unbecoming of the Colorado squad.

With Anfernee Simmons exploding in the third quarter from the perimeter: “He was towering over the rest of the kids and putting up shots,” Damian Lillard sneered.

Thus, they lead the NBA. It’s early, but dare to get them off a winning streak. We know from experience that it’s not easy. Especially with so much talent in the discussion.
