Cristiano Ronaldo is yet to appear in Manchester United‘s pre-season campaign but coach Erik ten Hag insists the Portuguese superstar will do so and will welcome with open arms.

The former Real Madrid forward is reportedly eager to leave the Red Devils but has been unsuccessful in finding a potential suitor, but Ten Hag brushed off any controversy and insisted that it was a matter of time before he returned.

“Concerning is maybe not the right word,” Ten Hag said about Ronaldo’s absence for the US tour.

“I focus on the players who are there and they are doing really well. They are in good shape and I have further focus on that and develop that.

“I cannot wait for [Cristiano] to come in and then we will integrate him.”

Ten Hag espera a Cristiano

Harry Maguire has been having a torrid time of late, with his poor performances bringing jeers from his own supporters, as was evidenced in the recent friendly with Crystal Palace.

But Ten Hag insists that, rather than trying to avoid the issue, Maguire must confront it and perform well to regain the fans’ faith.

“If you perform, it slows down,” Ten Hag said.

“I think he and the team impressed by the way we played. I don’t think it’s about finding out [if he was booed] if I understand it, it’s about how we can change it.

“So it’s the team and Harry himself by performing. That is what we’re working on, that is the only focus.”
