One of the more glamorous transfers of this past transfer window was the arrival of striker Erling Haaland to Manchester City for a fee of 60 million euros.
The former Borussia Dortmund player has already accumulated 10 goals in just six appearances in the Premier League and is well on his way to establishing his legacy in England especially if he can keep up his record in front of goal.
His former club’s sporting director, Sebastian Kehl, has discussed the impact the player had at Dortmund and how he was forced to sell his star player once he became a distraction in the dressing room.
“In the end, the issue of Haaland became a liability in the dressing room,” Kehl told Sport Bild.
“As much as we always wanted Haaland in the end he became a burden on the dressing room, the club and the whole environment. He had become the topic of all conversations.
“Outside the club, almost everything was focused exclusively on him. In the end, the timing of the transfer was right for both sides. And we are all happy for Erling that he continues to be successful.”
The Borussia Dortmundsporting director also admitted that he would have liked Haaland to stay and that the player was an exemplary person and professional.
Kehl also stated that he knew what the transfer would entail for both Dortmund and City.
“We knew what kind of player we were going to lose and that he would also make a difference at Manchester City,” Kehl continued.
Apart from his exploits in the Premier League, Haaland opened Champions League account for the year, scoring two goals in City‘s recent win over Sevilla, brining his total to 25 goals in the competition in just 20 games.
