After UFC 280, Dana White revealed that Conor McGregor‘s return will be delayed for at least six months.

Although he has a prominent role in the remake of the 80’s classic Road House that starred Patrick Swayze – and now Jake Gyllenhaal – which doesn’t seem very compatible with his fighting career, the film and his return are being impacted by a USADA (United States Anti-Doping Agency) rule.

Prior to his return to competition, ‘The Notorious’ has to undergo six months of anti-doping testing and provide a minimum of at least two negative tests before he is allowed to compete in the UFC again.

Why is this? That’s because McGregor is currently outside the USADA testing pool that tracks all active athletes.

Normally, someone who is active and officially enrolled in a US competition or circuit doesn’t leave the control group, but in McGregor’s case, he’s been inactive for quite awhile.

In addition, he has set up his headquarters in the Dominican Republic while filming Road House.

Therefore, if the former two-time UFC champion wants to fight again, he must restart the process with the USADA, which is six months, as confirmed by the agency itself on www.mmafighting.com, and comply with all control requirements.

Of course, the USADA also has the power to grant him an exemption, but the two negative tests are still needed.

Conor last fought in July 2021, taking on Dustin Poirier for the third time and losing after breaking his tibia.

That year he was subjected to 11 anti-doping tests in total. ‘The Notorious’ has already made it clear on social media that as soon as he finishes filming he will shift his focus back to his UFC career.
