It’s the never-ending debate with Neymar every time he plays for the Brazil National Team, will he ever win a major title with the senior squad before he retires? Thiago Silva seems to think so, he offered some insight into the things he is doing differently this time around and compared to other World Cups. Ney himself already hinted this might be the last World Cup he plays for Brazil. Despite he is still in his prime, the PSG star is already past the 30-year barrier, which makes him a veteran by all accounts.

In previous World Cups, there was always something that prevented Neymar from reaching his true potential. In fact, the two most recent tournaments were a complete bust for him due to serious injuries he suffered. During the World Cup’s game against Colombia, Neymar suffered a sensible back injury that kicked him out of the tournament just before they lost 7-1 against Germany. In 2018, Neymar picked up a nasty ankle injury that forced him to go under the knife. Despite recovering in time, he was nowhere his usual level of performance.

Thiago Silva has high hopes for Neymar in Qatar

But the current season that just started has proven a great start for Neymar at PSG, he is not injured and he is apparently doing things differently. Defender Thiago Silva spoke to the press about it: “I think Neymar is coming into this competition in great form. His preparation this time has been different. In 2014 he got injured just as he was playing so well, and in 2018 he came into the tournament in a different way because he had a serious injury so hadn’t played much. Now with a different preparation, without any injury and any worry, we see a better Neymar.”

If this is true, Thursday’s match against Serbia will offer us a better glimpse into the Neymar we’ve all been clamoring for during the past decade. He plays beautful football at a club level and also represents his national team well. However, winning titles with his country is not as second-nature as one would think for Neymar. All of Brazil hopes this tournament can finally be the one that gets him over that threshold that has resisted him since he began his career. Plus, he has some interesting teammates up front that can definitely help him achieve his goal of winning the FIFA World Cup.
