The LIV Golf series has made waves in 2022, with a lot of controversy arising as players have broken away from the PGA Tour in favour of a big payday.

But the PGA Tour are resisting and making plans of their own to beat the newly-established competition.

Legendary player Tiger Woods held a meeting with 20 of the best golfers still playing under the PGA Tour this month, and he apparently put forward the idea of a “tour within a tour”.

The idea could have a prize purse of as much as 20 million dollars, as explained by Fox Sports.

Tiger Woods’ PGA Tour ideas

Woods and the 20 top players he assembled discussed the formation of a tour-within-the-Tour: up to 18 no-cut tournaments featuring the top 60 players competing for 20 million dollar purses,” Alan Shipnuck reported for The Fire Pit Collective.

Woods has previously been critical of the LIV Golf series and those behind it, accusing them of betraying golf.

“I think that what they’ve done is they’ve turned their back on what has allowed them to get to this position,” Woods said, speaking about the LIV defectors at the Open Championship last month.

“What these players are doing for guaranteed money, what is the incentive to practice? What is the incentive to go out there and earn it in the dirt?

“You’re just getting paid a lot of money up front and playing a few events and playing 54 holes. They’re playing blaring music and have all these atmospheres that are different.”
