Tiger Woods made it clear that he does not support the new Golf LIV Series which is funded by the Saudi Arabian government.

In his press conference, he stated that he supports the PGA Tour and it doesn’t make sense for young players to go to the new league jeopardizing their participation in major tournaments.

Tiger Woods strong opinion

“I don’t agree with that,” Woods said. “I think what they’ve done is turned their back on what has allowed them to get to this position.”

“Some players are never going to have the experience of playing in major championships. That’s a possibility. We don’t know that yet. It’s up to those who organize the majors championships to determine that. But it is a possibility. We don’t know that yet, but some players are never going to get that opportunity to play in a major championship, walk the fairways at Augusta National (home of the Masters), here (at St. Andrews),” he said.

“The R&A obviously has its opinions, its rulings and its decisions,” Woods said. “Greg has done some things that I don’t think are in the best interest of our game, and we’re going back to probably the most historic and traditional venue in our sport. I think it’s the right thing to do.”

For golfers in the new LIV Golf Series like Abraham Ancer and Carlos Ortiz, it will depend on whether these league tournaments will be distributing world ranking points or whether the majors will change regulations to include them.

Right now, Abraham Ancer has enough world ranking points to play in the British Open. Ortiz, although he finished second in the Portland tournament, is not in a position to participate.

For Woods, it adds what are the incentives for players if most of the money is already guaranteed.

According to reports in June, Woods turned down a $1 billion offer to join LIV Golf.
