Tom Brady’s brief retirement from the NFL shifted the odds in bets to determine the next Super Bowl champion, but they were rearranged again when he decided to play in his 23rd season. Many fans and commentators, however, are pointing to a trend that would make him a favorite to win Super Bowl LVII.

The trend is actually a statistical anomaly that has played out in Brady’s career, as he entered the NFL in 1999 but took over as the New England Patriots‘ starter in 2001, winning the first of six Super Bowls with the New England Patriots before moving on to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

This has occurred since the 2014 season and was set for a cycle to close in the 2022 season, as this could be the final year of Tom Brady in the NFL, but nothing can be guaranteed due to the change in Brady’s decision on the matter last March.

It’s Tom Brady’s turn this 2022

If we go to statistics, beginning with the 2014 season, every year Brady’s team fails to reach the Super Bowl or he fails to win it, he returns to raise the Lombardi Trophy the following year. The Patriots won their fourth championship after defeating the Seattle Seahawks in Super Bowl XLIX at the end of the 2014 season. However, they were defeated in the AFC Championship Game by the Denver Broncos in 2015 and did not advance to Super Bowl 50.

They exacted their vengeance in 2016, going all the way to Super Bowl LI, where they defeated the Atlanta Falcons in a dramatic comeback, earning the franchise’s fifth ring under coach Bill Belicick and his favorite quarterback, Matt Ryan.

They returned to the “big game” in 2017, but were defeated by the Philadelphia Eagles in Super Bowl LII. They did, however, win the AFC pennant for the third year in a row, allowing them to compete in Super Bowl LIII at the end of the 2018 season. Brady and company won their sixth championship, and Brady’s final as a “Patriot.”

For the first time in a decade, New England was eliminated in the Wild Card round by the surprising Tennessee Titans in 2019 and did not advance to Super Bowl LIV. Brady’s final game in a Pats uniform.

In 2020, he signed with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, whom he led to victory in Super Bowl LV, defeating the Kansas City Chiefs to earn his seventh championship ring and the Buccaneers’ second in franchise history. Finally, their title defense ended in the Divisional Playoff in 2021, when they were defeated by the eventual champion Los Angeles Rams, causing them to miss Super Bowl LVI.

If that trend continues, and Tom Brady returns from a 40-day retirement, he will lead the “Bucs” back to the throne in Super Bowl LVII, with Todd Bowles as head coach.

Hence, “TB12” is ranked higher than Pat Mahomes of the Kansas City Chiefs and Aaron Rodgers of the Green Bay Packers. As a result, many believe that Brady will be able to win his eighth championship ring before Mahomes and Rodgers, who will each win their second. Those who believe this already have a reason to place a small wager.
