Following the announcement that quarterback Tom Brady left the Tampa Bay Buccaneers training camp and will not be back in training camp until August 20, speculation about the reasons for this decision has abounded, however, it appears that it is all part of a plan that was discussed beforehand.

According to the words of NFL Network reporter Ian Rapoport, in an interview he gave to the Pat McAfee show, there is no concern from the Bucs for this absence and the reasons for it have to do with the family balance that the seven-time Super Bowl champion is looking for.

Why isn’t Tom Brady at Buccaneers training camp?

“Here’s everything that I understand about this,” Rapoport said. “It was planned. No one is worried. He’s fine. To my knowledge, it’s not a medical emergency related to him or, I believe, anyone close to him. I was told that everything is OK. The best description I got about this was that it is important to find a work life balance.”

It is worth remembering that the most important reason Tom Brady gave for announcing his retirement at the beginning of 2022 was that he wanted to spend the time with his family that he had not been able to have due to his commitments to perform as well as possible on the gridiron.

For now, Brady will not be present for Tampa Bay’s first preseason game when they take on the Miami Dolphins this Saturday, August 13 at Raymond James Stadium.

“He’ll be back sometime around Tennessee,” head coach Todd Bowles said. “He’s gonna deal with some personal things. This is something we talked about before training camp started. We allotted this time because he wanted to get in and get chemistry with the guys and go through two weeks of training camp knowing he wasn’t going to play the first two games.”
