Tony Ferguson was knocked out in the first round of UFC 274, but he didn’t have to stay in the hospital overnight.

Ferguson was released from the hospital and his CT scans were negative following Saturday’s event, according to officials at the evening’s post-fight press conference. CT scans are used to detect any immediate brain damage, which was a major concern after Ferguson lost his main card to Michael Chandler.

After a strong first round, Ferguson was hit in the face with a front kick 17 seconds into Round 2, sending him crashing to the floor face-down. He was eventually able to stand up on his own, but he appeared confused as he was helped onto a stool.

Ferguson’s knockout was only his second in his career, and it was the first time he’d been knocked out completely; his other strike loss was to Justin Gaethje at UFC 249.

It’s unclear what other injuries Ferguson sustained during the match or what long-term health consequences the knockout loss may have. Ferguson had now lost four fights in a row.

In the first round of their highly anticipated UFC 274 showdown, Michael Chandler and Tony Ferguson traded blows. Chandler then turned the tables on Ferguson and turned off the lights in a split second.

Chandler landed a front kick to Ferguson’s jaw in one of the first exchanges of the second round, sending the former interim champ to the canvas just 17 seconds into the middle frame.
