Just before this fight, even Dana White was hyping up ‘Suga’ Sean O’Malley as a potential UFC star. Comparisons to Conor McGregor have been constant ever since he started his rise through the Bantamweight division. His striking power is very reminiscent to the one displayed by Conor during his first years in the sport. White compared this fight vs Petr Yan to Conor’s decisive test against Jose Aldo. If he won this evening, he would definitely graduate as one of the elite names in his division and the entire UFC.

Petr Yan is No. 1 contender in the division, he is arguably amongst the most important grapplers in the wordl right now. It was a test worthy of granting O’Malley his chance to silence all his critics. But winning wasn’t going to be easy for him, we were in for a true gladiator battle. It was a three-round fight that left everybody wanting more. Petr Yan had a total of six take downs and both fighters got knock-downs early in the first round.

O’Malley proved himself as one of the best

Sean O’Malley knew Petr Yan would try to take him down a number of occassions, he needed to remain vigilant and not get bested on the ground. He did his best and managed to get back up all six times he fell on the ground. A knee to Yan’s eyebrow was one of the best strikers of the entire fight during the third round, it opened a nasty cut on the Russian fighter.

Sean kept delivering clinical strikes throughout the entire fight that left him with an impressive 69-51 advantage in significant strikes. That’s exactly what won him the fight despite not having any take downs against Yan’s 6. A truly historic fight that leaves no more doubts about Sean O’Malley. He proved he is one of the most electrifying fighters in the entire UFC.

It’s not just the swagger, the man puts his fists where his mouth is, every time. Up next, Sean O’Malley definitely earned himself the chance to get a title shot against the winner of the fight between Sterling and Dillashaw. Dana White will likely give both fighters a bonus as one of the best fights at UFC 280. It was truly special watching these two go at it for three rounds.
