Confidence in the United States camp is understandably high. Gregg Berhalter‘s team had a great World Cup group stage in which they avoided defeat, and were able to secure a draw with the giants of England.
In the end, they finished second in the group and will face the Netherlands in the round of 16 on Saturday, a tough opponent but one that isn’t insurmountable.
One of the players most confident in pulling off the upset is Walker Zimmerman.
The USMNT center back is one of the oldest players on the team at just 29 years old, which shows the youthfulness of the squad. However, he believes the U.S. will go far.
“The conversation in the locker room is, hey, we’re excited to win,” said Zimmerman.
“But we have a lot more to give, a lot more expectations from this team.
“We said from the beginning, we’re unpacked, we’re here until December 19 in our head. And we want to make it happen.”

The goal has not been achieved
Although it seems almost impossible, the central defender is confident of reaching the World Cup final.
The team are confident and the defense is compact. They have only scored one goal in three matches, a penalty, which speaks to how well they’ve defended.
Asked whether he believes the USMNT’s goal has already been achieved by reaching the Round of 16, Zimmerman was blunt.
“Absolutely not,” Zimmerman stated. “This is more about getting out of the group because we know that’s the next step.
“That’s the only way you can win the World Cup, getting to the knockout stages. That’s the number one check mark.”
