The U.S. Women’s National Team finished its preparation matches with another 2-0 victory over the Colombian national team, although this time the bad weather was a factor and caused the match held at the Rio Tinto Stadium in Sandy, Utah, to be temporarily suspended.

Holding back tears, Rapinoe describes SCOTUS ruling as sad and cruel

True to form, the USWNT started off showing its offensive power, however, goalkeeper Catalina Perez was safe in her interventions and prevented some dangerous plays.

However, after a quarter of an hour in Utah, Manuela Vanegas scored in her own goal, trying to clear a cross from the right side, which was unreachable for Catalina Perez.

Clear USWNT dominance

With the score in their favor, the USWNT tried to make collective plays, although the Colombian defense was attentive to what the enemy team was trying to do, until the end of the first half.

In the second 45 minutes, the United States came close to increasing the lead with a header by Megan Rapinoe, but the defense almost prevented it on the line.

After that Colombia improved on offense, but Alyssa Naeher showed her great footwork in the box and prevented what would have been a great goal by Leicy Santos to tie the game.

The 30-minute stoppage

The match had to be stopped in the 75th minute due to weather conditions in Utah, but after just over 30 minutes, the match resumed and the USWNT extended the lead courtesy of Kelley O’Hara in the 77th minute to make it 2-0 and finish their schedule of friendly matches prior to the CONCACAF Pre-World Cup.

Inspiring story

In the match, USWNT forward Carson Pickett became the first player with a limb difference to play in a match for the national team.
