In breaking news coming from the world of tennis, Venus and Serena Williams have shockingly accepted a wild card to play doubles at the U.S. Open in New York City. The event is set to start on Monday, August 29 and it will end on Semtember 11. This is the 15th Grand Slam the Williams sisters play together and it might be one of the last given their veteran status.
Throughout their careers, the sisters have 14 doubles Grand Slam championships and they are currently tied for second in the Open era. This includes two trophies won at the U.S. Open in 1999 and 2009. They have reached 14 finals together and have never lost a title when they play it. Also, the Williams sisters have already won three Olympic Medals in doubles. Theirr most recent doubles Grand Slam title was at the Wimbledon 2016 tournament.

Serena and Venus’ ‘Last Dance’
Although Michael Jordan made this phrase a trend, it’s always nice when we get to use the term when we are talking about any sports legend who is about to embark on one final ride. Due to Serena Williams’ recent retirement announcement, this will definitely be the last time the sisters play a Grand Slam together.
Earlier this month, she revealed that she will move away from competitive tennis right before turning 41 years old. Although Venus hasn’t told the media when she plans to retire despite being the oldest of both sisters. During their last tournament in doubles, the Williams sisters played the French Open but lost in three sets during the third round.
Knowing how competitive they are, yre, you can bet they are already sweating tears in training as they get ready for this ‘Last Dance‘ together. Since that 2018 heartbreak, Serena has entered two doubles events with other two partners: once with Caroline Wozniacki in January 2020, and another one with Ons Jabeur this June.
