Max Verstappen moved one step closer to a second consecutive World Championship by taking his 10th win of the 2022 Formula 1 season at the Dutch Grand Prix.

The Dutchman led off the line and retained the lead until the opening round of pit stops, with Charles Leclerc unable to match his pace in the Ferrari.

This opened the door for the Mercedes pair of Lewis Hamilton and George Russell.

The duo opted to start on the Mediums rather than the Softs, and their strong pace after switching to the Hards left them in contention when the Safety Car was brought out after Valtteri Bottas stopped on track.

At the restart, Hamilton led from Verstappen, however, Mercedes‘ decision to leave the Briton on Medium tyres, which he fitted during a Virtual Safety Car earlier in the race, proved the wrong one.

Verstappen wasted no time in passing the seven-time World Champion into Turn 1, and was untroubled from there.

Hamilton made his displeasure with Mercedes’ decision vocal over the team radio. Unfortunately for him, Russell and Leclerc soon swept past him as well, forcing him to settle for fourth.

Behind him, Sergio Perez finished fifth ahead of Fernando Alonso and Lando Norris.

Carlos Sainz was provisionally classified eighth after being handed a five second time penalty for an unsafe pit release, though the Ferrari driver could be handed another penalty for overtaking under the yellow flag.

Esteban Ocon and Lance Stroll rounded out the top 10.
