When the Las Vegas Raiders obtained Davante Adams in a trade with the Green Bay Packers, the NFL world was surprised that the receiver did not want to stay on as a player with Aaron Rodgers after the 38-year-old quarterback decided to return to the team, however, in remarks Thursday during the start of minicamp, just that possibility of “A-Rod’s” retirement played a vital role in the decision not to return to the “Cheeseheads.”

“Oh, yeah. We’ve talked multiple times. We talked throughout the whole process, too, and he was aware of where I stood, and I was aware of where he stood. We had talks just like what he said the other day,” Adams said.
Adams informed the Packers that he would not play in Green Bay even though the home team at Lambeau Field had designated him with the franchise player tag, however, according to the receiver, that does not mean the Raiders offered him more money.
“I’ll say it, it was true (that the Packers offered him more money than the Raiders), O.K.,” Adams said. “But, like I said, there’s more that goes into it. Family is a big part of it for me, so geographically being here it makes it a lot easier for me to stay connected to my family year round. This isn’t Year 2. I’m not necessarily trying to ‘fight for a job’ or anything like that to where you gotta do what you gotta do to stay out there. I had the choice, and the choice was for me to come here and raise my family on the west coast and come out here and have some fun in the sun. It’s hard to explain.”

Las Vegas had to give Green Bay a first-round pick and a second-round pick in the last draft, in addition to reaching a five-year, $141.25 million deal with Adams, making him the highest-paid receiver of all time.
